About Mahabaleshwar
Mahabaleshwar is a city and a municipal council in Satara district of Maharashtra. It is a beautiful hill station placed in the Western Ghats. It was the summer capital of Bombay province during the British rule. The hill station is a plateau which is 150 sq km and is surrounded by valleys on all sides.

History
In the year 1215, the King Singhan of Deogiri visited Old Mahabaleshwar and built a temple there and a water tank. Both the temple and the water tank were built at the source of the river Krishna. Again in the year 1350, a Brahmin dynasty captured power of the place and the area came under peace and prosperity. The Maratha family of Chandarao More became rulers of Mahabelshwar in the 16th century. During this period the old temple of Mahabaleshwar was rebuilt.
